“Where thou art, that is home.”

~Emily Dickinson

The Four of Us

Our Home

by Denise Dare

Singing with their gentle rolling sways

Our wind chimes lull me into memories

Of our lives

Of times & days gone by.

When you & I first were introduced, oh

the time was yet to come.

Quickly passing, years slipping through

my fingers

Touching down & leaving only memories,

our acquaintance was strengthened

by the love that grew

within your arms.

And all of a sudden I knew,

when we brought our baby home

that you were so much more than

the mere facade of real life.

You were ours.

Every sunset watched, sunbeams

reflecting in their rainbow eyes

Every morning hurried, lulled

passed with no notice of time.

Breakfasts together, windows washed

& time slowly flooding the lives

that we once knew.

Washing away everything that was

And exploding a fresh new scene

Of life for us to love.

Reflecting now, sitting on this

precious moment,

A child of lives that never knew,

Always have known

the truth of what it means

to call you home.

It will always be where

the heart is.

It is where love resides,

friendship dwells.

Where hope smiles at the thought

of every new tomorrow

we will share.

And every dream of yesterday that

flees way to quickly

in the night.

While my eyes were closed,

the years have made their way.

And now I see,

like a revelation

to my once despairing eyes,

That life is beauty and splendor,

and oh so wonderful.

All the words that make you smile

at the memory of a feeling

we call joy.

That is what you are to me

Love in my life.

My home.
