Welcome, friend!

Have you ever had one of those days where you feel dark despite the shining sun? 

Your hair is just not right, your body feels blah, your mood is sour even though you know you have an amazing life…

You feel the heaviness in your mind, body & soul and you really want to let it go?

You feel like your ship is off course, being tossed among the waves and you’ve lost your  way…

If you’re searching for your way back to being your happy self, then try this route:

{It worked beautifully for me just two days ago!}

1. RELEASE YOUR RESISTANCE

When you’re feelin’ blue, allow yourself to feel your emotions. This is not to say that you need to dwell on negativity, but neither do you want to repress or deny what is happening. 

If you allow yourself to be real, and to experience authentically what you are feeling, then you free yourself to let it go.

As you release holding on to any negative thoughts and resistance that block you, soon you allow yourself to focus on a brighter path.

Once you acknowledge that you’re feelin’ fairly icky, then you have awareness to begin to…

2. CHOOSE YOUR THOUGHTS

After we recognize that we are in a {mental} place we don’t want to be, we create space to witness our thoughts.

We can stand back and observe what is happening within ourselves without judgment or criticism.

And, we can begin to consciously CHOOSE which thoughts we’d like to entertain. 

I love the image that thoughts are like ships setting sail…WE choose which ship we’d like to hop aboard and which we just let pass by.

So, purposely focus on thoughts that bring a smile to your face: 

  • a beautiful place you’ve been
  • your favorite child laughing in delight
  • watching baby animals play together
  • the serenity of walking amongst the Sequoias
  • listening to the ocean lapping against the shore
  • the decadence of eating a fine meal
  • embracing the one love
  • …you get the idea. 

Find something that uplifts you and focus your thoughts on the good. 

And, possibly most importantly…

3. BE GENTLE with YOURSELF

One of my favorite reminders is to BE HUMAN

My lifelong friend wisely wrote these words at the beginning of a yoga class I was teaching where I asked my students to write a positive intention for their lives.

She still carries the affirmation in her wallet. And I recorded this reminder on my chalkboard wall of inspiration.

Remembering that we are all on a journey, weathering the waves of life, facing challenge, and blossoming in joy IS inspiration to persevere. 

So be kind with yourself. Be gentle. Take your time with the transitions.

Treat yourself tenderly, reassure and comfort yourself as you would a child longing for compassion and love.

Hold on to these timeless words that my mama always reminds me:

This too shall pass.

4. LET YOURSELF SMILE

No matter our mood, when we free ourselves to smile about SOMEthing, suddenly, EVERYthing else begins to feel lighter, more manageable, easier…

Embrace your joy, free your smile and allow yourself to sail smoothly back to your happy place.
