My words will never be enough. They will always fall short of expressing the true depth of my gratitude, admiration and love. And yet, here they are, offered as a gift, as a memory, as a tribute to the woman in this world who has been everything to me…who is everything to me.

Mama, I love you.

When I think of the countless moments we’ve shared, the trials and challenges you’ve helped me face with courage and wisdom, the triumphs and successes you’ve celebrated with me, the love you’ve given unconditionally, endlessly, freely, my eyes well up with such appreciation and joy. Truly, I am blessed.

It’s kind of strange to me that we have one day each year to celebrate our mothers. Really, I want to celebrate mine every single day. Every moment I want to shout my gratitude from the rooftops, declare wholeheartedly,

“Thank you for the best mom in the universe!”

And even though I tell her every chance I get how much I love her, how much I appreciate her, I know that I always want to show her how very much her kind, loving presence in my life means to me.

And even though I know she knows, I want to take this opportunity to say it again…

Thank you, Mama, for guiding me with such a happy heart, such a giving attitude, such a tender and attentive way of nurturing me from the moment I was born.

Thank you, Mama, for being the mommy others only dream of, for bending over backwards to be sure that I felt supported, heard, loved.

Thank you, Mama, for tucking me in to bed each night, for reading stories (again and again!), for tickling my back and rubbing my legs, for singing beautiful songs with your angelic voice, for kissing me goodnight, for reminding me every day, “I Love You.”

Thank you, Mama, for being such a hard working woman, for being so damn strong and tenacious. You always put family first, you made sure our needs were met, that we were growing happily and healthily and exploring the world around us.

Thank you, Mama, for showing me that learning is fun! Your curious nature and encouragement of inquiry and wonder cultivated a sense of infinite potentiality and the courage in me to question everything, to think for myself, and to dream anything possible.

Thank you, Mama, for guiding me and so many friends whom you also nurtured at our home learning center and in Girl Scouts; these memories are filled with feelings of belonging, acceptance, community, service, enthusiasm, joy and love.

Thank you, Mama, for showing me how to ask for what I want, to value my own worth, to speak my truth, to see things through new eyes, and to know that This Too Shall Pass.

Thank you, Mama, for always putting my well being first: for driving to LA in the middle of the night to pick me up, for listening long distance while I was in Italy and creating space for me to journey on my own, for loving me through chaos and sadness and heartbreak and frustration, for supporting me through my educational pursuits, for being by my side through every single challenge I’ve known.

Thank you, Mama, for encouraging me to “March to the beat of a different drum,” to find my own voice, to live a revolutionary life, to listen to my heart, to be me.

Mama & Me

Thank you, Mama, for transforming from just Mom to Mom and Friend and Grammy, for nurturing my babies as tenderly and maybe even more wisely as you nurtured me, for your devoted participation in our lives, for shining your love on all of us.

Thank you, Mama, for BEING. For being the woman you are, for choosing happiness every day, for your honesty, for your compassion, for your attention, for your protection, for your support, for your LOVE.

Thank you, Mama, for being an inspiration, for modeling for me how to be a good mommy, for this precious gift of life, for everything…

My heart overflows because I am loved by the best mama in the universe.

I give thanks for I know I am blessed.

Now, may I ask you, whom are you appreciating today? Who has mothered you and nurtured you and guided you lovingly through your life?

Take this opportunity to remind the people you love how much they mean to you.

Share your gratitude and love and leave a comment about who has transformed and blessed your life.

Wishing you Peace, Joy and countless I Love Yous,

Denise 🙂
