Often when I feel the constraints of too much to do, not enough time, or any sensation of lacking that leads to discord, I step away from the chaos and take a few moments to open my heart.

Of course there are infinite ways of opening, but one of my current favorites is to drape my back across my balance ball and sweep my hands wide open overhead. I usually rest here for a few moments before I proceed to a supported backbend and engage in deep rhythmic breathing. When I feel present and expanded, I slowly roll myself up and carry on with a light heart and calm mind.

Yes, I know this sounds really simple, but believe me, it has shifted rather tense moments into peaceful and understanding experiences where I can more fully connect and empathize rather than judge and disengage. When we keep it simple, these tools for peaceful living are easily integrated into our daily lives…

Lately, I’ve incorporated this practice into my routine when I first awaken…it refreshes me, opens me, and encourages me to maintain an open heart and an open mind throughout my day.

What are ways that you connect your head and your heart?

How do you align yourself with peace and love?
