While rest, nourishment and nurturing personal care are essential in creating wellness, sometimes our bodies can use a little boost…a well supported immune system is our first defense against any possible dis-ease. Have you ever noticed that two people who are exposed to the same illness may respond completely differently? One could suffer from the sickness while the other continues about life unaffected and resilient.

Sometimes strengthening our immune system includes adding supplements into our daily routine, perhaps for a few days, weeks or a season. Sometimes it is wise to just keep immune building supplements on hand to help us at the first sign of dis-ease. It is critical that we are in tune with ourselves so that we are aware in those initial hours that something is amiss in our physical body, and that we have the resources with which to respond immediately. Resting, nourishing ourselves and boosting our immunity during the first hours of feeling under the weather can significantly improve our ability to heal rapidly. Some of my favorite immune boosters to have at home are:

Andrographis (a Chinese herb)

Astralagus (another Chinese herb)

Gels Immune (a homeopathic remedy)

Sambuccus (an herbal immune booster)

Ashwaganda (an Ayurvedic herb)

Triphala (another Ayurvedic remedy)

Aloe Vera (an amazing healing plant!)

…and of course, the traditional Echinacea, Garlic, Vitamins C & B (B complex is great to temper the effects of stress…which can be a precursor to many types to dis-ease!).

Obviously, this list of supplements is only an offering of some ideas to help you find ways to maintain health and create wellness; it is vital that each of us do what is best for ourselves, that we follow through with our own research and that we decide what may or may not be appropriate for our individual bodies and constitutions. We must all do what is best for ourselves and our families. I am just reflecting on my personal experience on my own journey toward wellness…perhaps you have ideas that you could suggest as well? Please share your wisdom in the comments…I would love to learn more ways to feel vibrant and well!

Wishing you a winter of radiance!
