Have Fun. Act Silly. Be YOU.

Hello Happy Friends!

Hoping this Friday is full of fun & ease for you!

Mine is off to a beautiful start after an amazing mind & body opening yoga practice, led by Mic & acoustically accompanied by Benj at Ja Yoga in LB (thanks to my mama who is graciously nurturing my girls while I yoga & write!).

I’m totally hooked on Mic’s Free Flow Friday class because he’s such a lighthearted, playful & happy teacher AND because Benj graciously makes the most beautiful melodies (check out Benj’s bands: Hedgehog Swing and Larissa Stow & Shakti Tribe!) during our entire practice & shavasana…how rad is that?

So you know what I’m up to…now, let me ask, what are you doing today to nurture your body, mind & spirit…and add more fun & joy into your life?

I hope it’s something WONDER-full and inspiring…and I would love to know!

Please write in the comments what fun you’re creating in your life…good ideas are meant to be shared!

Today, I’d like to share something you can make that will definitely bring a smile to your face…and make your tummy & body feel oh so good!

My dear friend, Jessica Becker (Thank you, Jess! You’re amazing!), recently shared with me her tasty recipe for a sweet green smoothie.

I was reluctant at first because I am the type of girl who makes green smoothies that kinda have to be chugged down (HEAVY on the veggies & light on the sweet if you know what I mean!).

Well, one drink of her sweet green smoothie and I was hooked!

I’m learning that nourishing our bodies can feel & taste delicious!

So, here’s the version I made today before yoga…please share if you like this!

Yummy Green Smoothie

  • Kale, Swiss Chard, Spinach: as much as you like, generally a big handful of each
  • Almond (or soy, or whatever you choose!) Milk: around 1 cup, more or less depending on the texture you prefer
  • Coconut Milk: 1/2 can of whole coconut milk
  • Coconut Manna (aka Coconut Butter): a big spoonful
  • Goji Berries: a small handful
  • Cacao Nibs: around 1 tablespoon
  • Maca: 1 tablespoon or so
  • Vanilla Extract: approximately 1 teaspoon
  • Chai Tea: 1/2 cup or so (use the Oregon Chai Tea Latte if you want like yours sweet!)

Options:

  • Add a frozen banana if you want an even sweeter & colder smoothie
  • Add a scoop of Grass Fed Whey Protein Powder if you need a little protein boost (US Wellness Meats sells a yummy vanilla kind)
  • Add a smidge of spirulina if you like (just know that this will change the flavor quite a bit!)
  • Add some nut butter to thicken & add protein (almond, peanut, whatever you like)

I highly suggest purchasing all organic products (good for you & our environment!) & as much locally grown as possible (from the farmer’s market means fresh & seasonal produce and from your own garden is the BEST!).

One of my favorite sites for dry organic goods is Vitacost (great prices & huge selection), though I know many people also like Swanson Vitamins, Super Supplements, Iherb…so many to choose from.

If you’re in the LB area, Vitamin City is a great local independent shop for purchasing organic dry goods & produce.

For those of you already seasoned in the green smoothie making practice, dive in & enjoy the yumminess…and tell us how you crafted yours!

For those of you just starting this journey of wellness and all things green, then do your best, find what you have on hand (and maybe order something new & good for you!)…and share with us what you like best!

Here’s to Health, Happiness & Feelin’ Good From the Inside Out,

Denise 🙂
